Dog rescued while running loose on I-25 in Colorado Springs reunited with owner

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – UPDATE 12/19/19:
The dog rescued by strangers after running loose on I-25 in Colorado Springs on Wednesday has been reunited with his owner!

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region posted an update on Thursday. The organization is reporting the dog named Chewbacca will be home for the holidays.

“Fortunately, our Animal Law Enforcement was able to respond quickly and get him off the highway to safety,” the humane society wrote on Facebook. “And today, he was reunited with his loving family! Chewbacca (as we found out he is called) was VERY nervous with us, but as soon as he saw his daddy, he ran to the front of his kennel, tail a-wagging. We are so happy we were able to reunite Chewbacca safely with his people!”

Police in Colorado Springs are crediting concerned citizens with saving a dog that was running loose on I-25.

The pup was spotted on the busy highway near the Fontanero exit on Wednesday. The animal wasn’t wearing any tags, so police turned to social media. You can see a picture of the dog at the top of this article.

“Thanks to the help of concerned citizens, he was safely rescued from traffic,” police wrote on Facebook. “Does anybody recognize this handsome dog?”
